The following Act of the Constituent Assembly has been authenticated by the President of the Constituent Assembly by his signature on the 25th Novem- ber, 1949 , and is hereby published for general information : -
CONSTITUENT ASSEMBLY ACT NO . VI OF 1949 .
An Act further to amend the Government of India Act , 1935 .

WHEREAS it is expedient further to amend the Govorn- ment of India Act , 1995 , for the purpose hereinafter appearing;
It is hereby enacted as follows: -
1. ( 1) This Act may be called the Government of India (Fourth Amendment ) Act , 1949 .

(2) It shall come into force on the twenty- sixth day of November , 1949.

applies for the inter- 2. The Interpretation Act , 1889 , pretation of this Act as it applies for the interpretation of an Act of Parliament .
8. In sub - section ( 1) of section 290 of the Government of India Act , 1935 , after clause ( d) , the following clause shall be inserted , namely : -
" ( e) alter the name of any Province: "
