NOTIFICATIONS
New Delhi, the 7th February 1863
S.O. 419.-—Whereas a vacancy has occurred in the seats allotted to the State of Maharashtra in the Council of States by reason of the resignation of Shri Vinayakrao Pandurang Patil, an elected member of the Rajya. Sabha with affect from the 1st December, 1962;
Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 147 of Representation of the People Act, 1951 (43 of 1951), the Election Commission hereby calls upon the elected members of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Maharashtra to elect, in accordance with the provisions of the "aid Act and of the Rules and Orders made thereunder, a person to fill the vacancy so caused before the 7th March, 1963.

S.O. 420,—In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 39 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 (43 of 1951), the Election Commission hereby appoints, for the election to the Council of States to be held in pursuance of its notification No. 100/MT-CS/2/62(l) dated the 7th February, 1963:—
(a) the 14th February, 1963 as the last date for making nominations;
(b) the 16th February, 1963, as the date for the scrutiny of nomination;
(c) the 19th February, 1963, as the last date for the withdrawal of
candidatures;
(d) the 28th February, 1963, as the date on which a poll shall, if necessary;
be taken;
(e) the 7th March, 1963, as the date before which the election shall be
completed.

S.O. 421.—In exercise of the powers conferred by section 21 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Election Commission, in con- sultation with the Government of Maharashtra, hereby designates Shri S. R. Kharabe, Deputy Secretary, Maharashtra Legislature Secretariat, Bombay, to bo the Returning Officer for the election to the Council of States to be held in pursuance of Its notification No. l00/MT-CS/2/62(l) dated the 7th February, 1963.
B.O. 4XZ.—In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-aection (1) of Mctlon 22 of the Representation of the People Act, 1B31, the Election Com- mission hereby appoints Shri M. J. Tamane, Under Secretary, Maharashtra Legis- lature Secretariat, Bombay, to assist the Returning Officer for the election to the Council of States to be held in pursuance of its notification No. 100/MT-CS/2/62U) 4ated the 7th February, 1963, in the performance of his functions. [No. 100/MT-CS/2/62(4).]S.O. 423.—In exercise of the powers conferred by section 56 of the Representation of the People Act, 1051, the Election Commission hereby fixes the hours from 10" 00 A.M. to 1 P.M. as the hours during which the poll shall if necessary, be taken for the election to the Council of States to be held in pursuance of its notification No. 100/MT-CS/2/62,(l) dated the 7th February, 1963.
