NOTIFICATIONS New Delhi, the 27th November 1963
S.O. 3309.—Whereas a vacancy has occurred in the seats allotted to the State of Uttar Pradesh in the Council of States by reason of the resignation of Shri Nawab Singh Chauhan:
Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of sec- tion 147 of the Representation of the People Act, 1051, the Election Commission hereby calls upon the elected members of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Uttar Pradesh to elect, in accordance with the provisions of the said Act and of the Rules and Orders made thereunder, a person to fill the vacancy so caused before the 24th December, 1963.

S.O. 3310.—In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 39 of the Representation of the People Act, 1051, the Election Commission hereby appoints, for the election to the Council of States to be held in pursuance of its notification No. 100/UP/CS/1/63(1), dated 27th November, 1963.—
(a) 4th December, 1963, as the last date for making nominations; (b) 6th December, 1963 as the date for the scrutiny of nominations; (c) the 8th December, 1963 as the last date for the withdrawal of candida-
tures ;
(d) the 17th December, 1963, as the date on which a poll shall, if necessary,
be taken;
(e) the 24th December, 1963, as the date before which the election shall be
completed.
[No. 100/UP/CS/1/63(2).] S.O. 3311.—In exercise of the powers conferred by section 21 of the Represen- tation of the People Act, 1951, the Election Commission, in consultation with the Government of Uttar Pradesh, hereby designates the Secretary, Uttar Pradesh the Legislature, Lucknow, to be the Returning Officer for the election to the Council of States to be held in pursunace 100/UP/CS/l/63(l), [No. 100/UP/CS/1/63(3).]
S.O. 3312.—In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 22 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Election Commission hereby appoints the Secretary, Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Lucknow to assist the Returning Officer for the election to the Council of States to be .held in pur- suance of its notification No. 100/UP/CS/1/63(1), dated the 27th November 1963, in the performance of his functions.
8l2 THE GAZETTE OF INDIA EXTRAORDINARY [PART II-SEC. 8 (ii)]S.O. 3313.—In exercise of the powers conferred by section 56 of the Representa- tion of the People Act, 1951, the Election Commission hereby fixes the hours from JO1 30 A.M. to 3'30 P.M. as the hours during which the poll shall if necessary be taken lor the election to the Council of States to be held in pursuance of its notification No. 100/UP/CS/l/63(l) dated the 27th November, 1963.
