NOTIFICATIONS

New Delhi, the 5th February 1964

S.O. 505.—Whereas a vacancy has occurred in the seats allotted to the State of Bihar in the Council of States by reason oil the resignation of Shri Ramdhari Sinha Dinkar;

Now. therefore, In pursuance of sub-section (1) of section 147 of the Repre- sentation of the People Act, 1951, the Election Commission hereby calls upon the elected members of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Bihar to elect, in accordance with the provisions of the said Act and of the Rules and Orders made thereunder, a person to fill the vacancy so caused, before the 1st March, 1964.

S.O. 506.—In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 39 ol the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Election Commission hereby Appoints, for the election to the Council of States to be held in pursuance of its notification No. 100/BR-CS/l/64(l), dated the 5th February, 1964—

(a) the 12th February, 1964, as the last date for making nominations; (b) the 14th February, 1934, as the date for the scrutiny of nominations; (c) the 17th February, 1884, as the last date for the withdrawal of candi- datures;

(d) the 25th February, 1964, as the date on which a poll shall, if necessary, be taken; and

(e) the 1st March, 1964, as the date before which the election shall be completed.

S.O. 507.—In exercise of the powers conferred by section 56 of the Represen- tation of the People Act, 1' 51, the Election Commission hereby fixes the hours from 11 A.M. to 4 P.M. as the hours during which the poll shall, if necessary, be taken for the election to the Council of States to be held in pursuance of its notifi- cation No. 100/BR-CS/l/64(l), dated the 5th February, 1964.

[No. 100/BR-CS/l/64(3).]S O 508.—In exercise of the powers conferred by section 21 of the Represen- tation of the People Act, 1951, the Election Commission, in consultation with the Government of Bihar, hereby designates the Secretary, Bihar Legislative Assembly, Patna, to be the Returning Officer for the election to the Council of States to be ( 8 3)

held in pursuance of the Election Commission's notification No. 100/BR-CS/l/M(l), dated the Bth February, 1964.

8.0. 509.—In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 22 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Election Commission hereby appoints Shri Manindra Das Gupta, Assistant Secretary, Bihar Legislative Assem- bly, Patna, to assist the Returning Officer for the election to the Council of States to be held in pursuance of the Election Commission's notification No. 100/BR-CS/ 1/64(1), dated the 6th February, 1904, In the performance of his functions.
