NOTIFICATIONS
New Delhi, the 17th, February 1964
S.O. 580.—Whereas a vacancy has occurred in the seats allotted to the State of Maharashtra in the Council of States by reason of the election of Shri Y. B, Chavan to the House of the People and the consequent vacation by him of his seat in the Council of States in accordance with the provisions of sub-section (2) of section 60 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951;
Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 147 of the said Act, the Election Commission hereby calls upon the elected members of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Maharashtra to elect before the 16th March. 1964, in accordance with the provisions of the said Act and of the Rules and Orders made thereunder, a person to fill the vacancy so caused.
[No. 100/MT-CS/3/63(l).l S.O. 581.—In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 39 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Election Commission hereby appoints for the election to the Council of States to be held in pursuance of its notification No. 100/MT-CS/3/63C1) dated the 17th February, 1964,—
(a) the 24th February, 1964, as the last date for making nominations; (b) the 26th February, 1964, as the date for the scrutiny of nominations; (c) the 29th February, 1964, as the last date for the withdrawal of candi- datures;
(d) the 9th March, 1964, as the date on which a poll shall, if necessary, be taken; and
(e) the 16th March, 1964, as the date before which the election shall be completed,

R, Kharabe, Deputy Secretary, Maharashtra Legislature Secretariat, Bombay, to be the Returning Officer for the election to the Council of States to be held in pursuance of its notification No, 100/MT-CS/3/63(l), dated the 17th February, 1964.

S.O. 584.—In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 22 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Election Commission hereby appoints Shri M. J. Tamane, Under Secretary, Maharashtra Legislature Secreta- riat, Bombay, to assist the Returning Officer for the election to the Council of States to be held in pursuance of its notification No. 100/MT-CS/3/63(l), dated the 17th February, 1964.
