ELECTION COMMISSION, INDIA NOTIFICATIONS New Delhi, the 8th April 1967

S.O. 1244.—Whereas a vacancy has occurred in the seats allotted to the State of Orissa in the Council of States by reason of the election of Shri Shraddhakar Supakar to the House of the People and the consequent vacation by him of his seat in the Council of States in accordance with the provisions of sub-section (2) of section 69 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951;

Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 147 of the said Act, the Election Commission hereby calls upon the elected members of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Orissa to elect, in accordance with the provisions of the said Act and of the rules and orders made thereunder, a person to fill the vacancy so caused before the 28th April, 1967.

S.O. 1245.—In pursuance of the provisions of sub-section (1) of section 39 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Election Commission hereby appoints for the election to the Council of States to be held in pursuance of its notification No. 100/OR-CS/1/67(1), dated the 8th April, 1967.

(a) the 15th April, 1967, as the last date for making nominations; (b) the 17th April, 1967, as the date for the scrutiny of nominations; (c) the 19th April, 1967, as the last date for the withdrawal of candidatures (d) the 26th April, 1967, as the date on which a poll shall, if necessary be taken; and (e) the 28th April, 1967, as the date before which the election shall be completed. 8.0. 1246.—In pursuance of section 56 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. the Election Commission hereby fixes the hours from 10.30 A.M. to 2,00 P.M. as the hours during which a poll shall, if necessary, be taken for the election to the Council of States to be held in pursuance of its notification No. 100/OR-CS/ 1/67(1), dated the 8th April, 1967.

S.O. 1247.—In exercise of the powers conferred by section 21 of the Representa- tion of the People Act, 1951, the Election Commission, In consultation with the Government of Orissa, hereby designates the Secretary, Orissa Legislative Assembly, to be the Returning Officer for the election to the Council of States to be held in pursuance of its notification No. 100/OR-CS/1/67(1), dated the 8th April, 1967.

S.O. 1248.—In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 22 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Election Commission hereby appoints the Assistant Secretary, Orissa, Legislative Assembly, to assist the Returning Officer for the election to the Council of States to be held In pursuance of its notification No. 100/OR-CS/1/67(1), dated the 8th April, 1987, in the per- formance of his functions.
