The following President's Act is published for general informa- tion: -
THE KERALA COURT - FEES AND SUITS VALUATION ( AMENDMENT) ACT 1966
No. 8 OF 1966
Enacted by the President in the Seventeenth Year of the Republic of India .
An Act to amend the Kerala Court - Fees and Suits Valuation Act , 1959 .
12 of 1965.
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 3 of the Kerala State Legislature ( Delegation of Powers ) Act , 1965 , the President is pleased to enact as follows : -
1. ( 1 ) This Act may be called the Kerala Court - Fees and Suits Valuation (Amendment) Act , 1966 .
Short title and com- mencement.

(2) It shall come into force on such date as the Government may , by notification in the Gazette , appoint .
2. In section 81 of the Kerala Court - Fees and Suits Valuation Act , Amendment of section 81. 1959 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act ) , for the words Keala Act " seven Naye Paise " , the words " seven paise " shall be substituted . 10 of 1960 .
Amendment ofSchedule I.
3. In Schedule I to the principal Act, in the entries relating to Article 1 ,-
(1 ) in Items ( i ) and ( ii ) , for the words " naye paise " , the word " paise " shall be substituted ;
(2) for item ( iii ) , the following items shall be substituted namely: -
Seventy- five paise;
" ( iii ) exceeds one hundred rupees , for every ten rupees , or part thereof , in excess of one hundred rupees up to one thousand rupees
One rupee ." .
( iv) exceeds one thousand rupees , for every ten rupees , or part thereof , in excess of one thousand rupees
4. In Schedule II to the principal Act ,-
Amendment of Schedule II .
( 1) for the words " naye paise " , wherever they occur , the word " paise " shall be substituted;
(2) in the entries relating to Article 16, in column ( 3 ) .-
( i) for the words " One rupee and fifty naye paise " and " Two rupees " , the words " Two rupees " and " Three rupees " shall respectively be substituted ;
(ii) for the words " Three rupees " , wherever they occur , the words " Five rupees " shall be substituted.
5. In Schedule III to the principal Act , for the expression " nP" , wherever it occurs , the word " paise " shall be substituted.

Reasons for the enactment
For raising additional resources for the Fourth Five Year Plan , it is considered necessary to amend the Kerala Court - Fees and Suits Valuation Act , 1959 ( Kerala Act 10 of 1960 ) so as to enhance the rates of court- fees in cases where such enhancement could be made without hardship to the litigants . This enactment is mainly intended to achieve this object . Opportunity has been taken to change the references to " naye paise " in the Act into references to "paise" .
2. The Committee constituted under the proviso to sub - section ( 2 ) of section 3 of the Kerala State Legislature ( Delegation of Powers ) Act , 1965 ( 12 of 1965 ) , has approved the enactment of this measure as a President's Act .
