NOTIFICATIONS

New Delhi, the 21st September 1966

S.O. 283] —Whereas the President has by notification published in the Gazette of India on the 21st September, 1966, called upon the elected members of the Legislative Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir to elect a member to the Council of States.

Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers confered by sub-section (1) of section 39 of [he Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Election Commission hereby appoints with respect to the said election—

(a) the 27th September, 1966, as the last date for making nominations; (b) the 29th September, 1966, as the date for the scrutiny of nominations; (c) the 1st October, 1966, as the last date for the withdrawal of candida- tures;

(d) the 8th October, 1966, as the date on which a poll shall if necessary, be taken; and

(e) the 10th October, 1966, as the date before which the election shall be completed.

INo. 31B/J&K/66(1).J S.O. 2832.—In exercise of the powers conferred by section 21 of the Representa-tion of the People Act, 1S51, the Election Commission, in consultation with the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, hereby designates the Secretary. Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Srinagar to be the Returning Officer for the elec- tion by the elected members of the Legislative Assembly of the State to fill the vacancy in the Council of States to be caused by the retirement of Shri Krishan Dutt, a member whose term of office expires on the 10th November, 1966 [No. 318/J&K.66(2).] (1353)

of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Election Commission hereby appoints the Deputy Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir Legls'ative Assembly, Sri- nagar, to assist the Returning Officer for the election to the Council OJ: States lo be caused by the retirement of Shri Krishan Dutt, a member whose term of office expires on the 10th November, 1966, In the performance of his functions.

S.O. 2834.—In exercise of the powers conferred by section 56 of the Representa- tion of the People Act, 1951, the Election Commission hereby fixes 11 A.M. to 3 P.M., as the hours during which the poll shall, if necessary, be taken at the biennial election to the Council of States in the State of Jammu and Kashmir to be held in pursuance of the President's notification published in the Gazette of India on the 21st September, 1966.
