NOTIFICATIONS
New Delhi, the 10th March 1967
S.O. 839--~Whereas a vacancy has occurred in the seats allotted to the State of Madras in the Council of States by reason of the election of Shri C. N, Anna- durai to the House of the People and the consequent vacation by him of his seat in the Council of States in accordance with the provisions of sub-sectton (2) of section 69 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951;
Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 147 of the said Act, the Election Commission hereby calls upon the elected members of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Madras to elect in accord- ance with the provisions of the said Act and of the rules and orders made there- under, a person to fill the vacancy so caused before the 31st March, 1967.

S.O. 840.—In pursuance of the provision of sub-section (1) of section 39 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Election Commission hereby appoints for the election to the Council of States to be held in pursuance of its notification No. 100/MD-CS/l/67(l), dated the 10th March, 1967.

R41.—Tn pursuance of section 56 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. the Election Commission hereby fixes the hours from 10 A.M. to 3 P.M. as the hours during which a poll shall, if necessary, be taken for the election to the Council of States to be held in pursuance of its notification No. 100/MD-CS/l/ 67(1), dated the 10th March, 1967.

R42,—In exercise of the powers conferred by section 21 of the Represen- tation of the People Act, 1951, the Election Commission, In consultation with the Government of Madras, hereby designates the Secretary, Legis^tive Assembly Department, Madras, to be the Returning Officer for the election to the Council of States to be held in pursuance of its notification No. 100/MD-CS/l/67(l), dated the 10th March, 1967. r

S.O, 843.—In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 22 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Election Commission hereby appoints the Deputy Secretary, Legislative Assembly Department, Madras, to assist the Returning Officer for the election to the Council of States to be held in pu suance of Its notification No. 100/MD-CS/1/67U), dated the 10th March, 1967, in the performance of his functions.
