NOTIFICATIONS New Delhi, the 6th April 1967
S.O. 1237.—-Whereas a vacancy has occurred in the seats allotted to the Slate of Jammu. & Kashmir in the Council of States by reason of the election of Shri M. Shafi Qureshi to the House of the People and the consequent vacation by him of his seat in the Council of States in accordance with the provisions of sub-section (2) of section 69 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951;
Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 147 of the said Act, the Election Commission hereby calls upon the elected members of the Legislative of the State of Jammu & Kashmir to elect, in accord- ance with the provisions of the said Act and of the rules and orders made there- under, a person to fill the vacancy so caused before the 5th May, 1967.
[No. 100/J&K/CS/l/67(l).] S.O. 1238.—In pursuance of the provisions sub-section (1) of section 39 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. the Election Commission hereby appoints for the election to the Council of States to be held in pursuance of its notification No. 100/ J&K-CS/1/67(1), dated the 6th April, 1967.
(a) the 14th April 1967, as the last date for making nominations; (b) the 15th April, 1967, as the, date for the scrutiny of nominations; (c) the 17th April, 1967, as the last date for the withdrawal of candidatures; (d) the 3rd May, 1967. as the date on which a poll shall, if necessary, be
taken; and

PS the hours during which a poll shall, if necessary, be taken for the election to the Council of States to be held in pursuance of its notification No, 100/J&K- CS/1/67(1), dated the 6th April, 19H7. [No. 100/J&K-CS/l/87(3).]S.O. 1240.—In exorcise of the powers conferred by section 21 of the Repre- sentation of the People Act, 1951, the Election Commission, in consultation with the Government of Jammu & Kashmir hereby designates the Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council, Jammu to be the Returning Officer for the election to the Council of States to be held in pursuance of Its notification No. ]00/J&K-CS/l/G7(11, dated the 6th April, 1967.

S.O. 1241.—In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 2'2 of the Representation DI the People Act, 3951, the Election Commission hereby appoints the Deputy Secretary. Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council to assist th^ ReturnitiR Officer for the election to the Council of States to be held in pur- suance of its notification No. 1OO/J&K-CS/1/67(1), dated the 6th April, 1967 in the performance of his functions.
