ELECTION COMMISSION OF INDIA

NOTIFICATION

New Delhi, the 25th October 1968

S.O. 3798.—In pursuance of clause (a) of article 84 and clause (a) of article 173 of the Constitution of India the Election Commission hereby makes the follow- ing amendments, in its Notification No. 3/6/68(1) dated the 18th March. 1968, published as S.O. 1111 In the Gazette of India Extraordinary, Part II, Section 3, sub-section (ii) namely:—

In the said notification—

(a) in paragraph 1, for the words "hereby authorises the returning officer concerned and all the assistant returning officers subordinate to him as the persons", the following shall be substituted, namely:—

"hereby authorises—

(I) the returning officer concerned and all the assistant returning officers subordinate to him,

(ii) all stipendiary presidency magistrates and all stipendiary magis- trates of the first class, and(iii) all district judges and all persons belonging to the Judicial service of a State other than district judges, as the persons"; ( 1249)

j 2 jo THE GAZETTE OF INDIA EXTRAORDINARY [PART II-SEC. Sfli)) (b) in the Explanation, after clause (1), the following clause shall bo Inserted, namely:—

''(1A) the expressions "district Judge" and "Judicial service" shall have the meanings respectively assigned to them in artlclo 236 of the Constitution of India."
