No. 31/13/68-Adm..IIIB.—The President is pleased, on the occasion of Republic Day, 1969, to award an Appreciation Certificate for specially distinguished record of service to:—
Shri Romesh Chander Datt, Additional Chief Inspector, Customs Department, Bombay.
2. This award is made under clause (a)(ii) of para 1 of the Scheme governing the grant of awards to the officers and staff of the Customs and Central Excise Departments, published in Part I, Section 1 of the Gazette of India Extra-ordinary Notification No. 12/139/59- Adm. IIIB dated the 5th November, 1962.

IIIB dated the 5th November, 1962.
No. 31/13/68-Adm. IIIB.—The President is pleased, on the occasion of Republic Day, 1969, to award an Appreciation Certificate for exceptionally meritorious service rendered when undertaking a task even at the risk of his life to:—
Shri Chakkenjath Balakrishnan, Sub-Inspector of Central Excise, Central Excise Collectorate, Bombay.
Statement of services for which the Certificate is awarded.
On 13th May, 1968, on receiving information that smuggled cinnamon had been landed at Erangal village, Shri Balakrishnan and one more Sub-Inspector rushed to the spot They were informed that a motor vehicle loaded with some of the contraband had already left. Thereupon, Shri Balakrishnan _gave chase single-handed on a motor cycle and after a long and dangerous chase of eight miles succeeded in cornering and intercepting the suspected vehicle containing five packages of cinnamon weighing 250 kgs.
2. The award is made under clause (a)(i) of para 1 of the Scheme governing the grant of awards to the officers and staff of the Customs and Central Excise Departments, published in Part I, Section 1 of the Gazette of India Extra-ordinary Notification No. 12/139/59/Adm. IIIB dated the 5th November, 1962, and consequently carries with it monetary allowance at the rate of Rs. 20/- p.m. for a period of five years from 13th May, 1968 to 12th May, 1973, as admissible under clause fb> ibid.
