NOTIFICATION
New Delhi , the 8th January 1970
S.O. 146. Whereas the name of the State of Madras has since been altered to Tamil Nadu , vide the Madras Staic ( Alteration of Name ) Act , 1968 :
And Whereas the Commission considers it necessary to correct the name of State wherever it occurs in the Delimitation of Parliamentary and Assembly Constituencies Order , 1966 ;
Now , therefore , in exercise of the powers conferred by clause ( b ) of sub - section (1) of Section 9 of the Representation of the People Act , 1950 , the Election Com- mission hereby makes amendments in the said Order as follows : -
(1 ) in the Table of Contents , for the entry " 9. Madras " substitute the entry " 9. Tamil Nadu" ;
(2) in Schedule IX , in the heading , for the word " Madras " substitute the words " Tamil Nadu " ; and
(3) in the Annexure (pages 411 to 419 ) to the Order after Schedule XXIII , for the word " Madras " substitute the words " Tamil Nadu " , wherever it occurs .
