NOTIFICATIONS
New Delhi, the 20th. March 1972
S.O. 211 (E).—Whereas a vacancy has occurred in the Council of States consequent upon the death of Shri Bhaurao Krishnarao Gaikwad a member elected to the Council of States by the elected members of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Maharashtra before the expiration of his term of office;
Now, therefore, in pursuance of the provisions of sub-section (1) of section 147 of the Representation of the People Act. 1951, the Election Commission hereby calls upon the elected members of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Maha- rashtra to elect, in accordance with the provisions of the said Act and of the rules and orders made thereunder a person to fill the vacancy so caused before the 7th April, 1972 (Friday).

508 THE GAZETTE OF INDIA EXTRAORDINARY [PARr II—S.O. 212(E).—In pursuance of the provisions of sub-section (1) of section 39 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. the Election Commission hereby appoints for the election to the Council of States to be held In pursuance of its notification No. ]00/Cg-MT/l/7a(l), dated the 20th March, 1972:—-
(a) the 27th March, 1972 (Monday), as the last date for making nominations;
(b) the 28th March, 1972 (Tuesday), as the date for the scrutiny of nomina- tions;
(c) the 30th March, 1972 (Thursday), as the latt date for the withdrawal of candidatures;
(d) the 6th April, 1972 (Thursday), as the date on which a poll shall, if necessary, be taken; and
(e) the 7th April, 1972 (Friday), as the date before which the election shall be completed.

SEC. 3(ii)] THE GAZETTE OF INDIA EXTRAORDINARY 509S.O. 213 (E).—In pursuance of section 56 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the JClection Commission hereby fixes the hours from 10.00 A.M. to 1.00 P.M. as the hours during which a poll shall, if necessary, be taken for the election to the Council of States to be held in pursuance of its notification No. 100/CS-MT/l/ 72(1), dated the 20th March, 1972.

S.O. 2H(E),—In pursuance of the provisions of section 21 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. the Election Commission, in consultation with the Government of Maharashtra, hereby designates Shrl G. G, Kudalkar, Deputy Secretary, Maha- rashtra Legislature Secretariat, as the Returning Officer for the election to the Council of States to be held in pursuance of Its notification No. 100/CS-MT/1/72(1), dated the 20th March, 1972,

S.O, 215(E).—In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 22 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Election Commission hereby appoints Shrl D. G. Gupte, Under Secretary, Maharashtra Legislature Secretariat, to assist the Returning Officer for the election to the Council of States to be held In pursuance of its notification No. 100/CS-MT/1/72(1), dated the 20th March, 1972 in the performance of his functions.
