New Delhi, the 13th April 1972
S.O. 287 (E).—In pursuance of section 67 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 (43 of 1951), the following declaration containing the name of the can- didate elected to fill the vacancy in the Council of States is published for general information:—

Bye-election to the Council of States by the elected members of the Legis-
lative Assembly of Meghalaya.
"In pursuance of the provisions contained in section 66 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, read with clause (a) of sub-rule (1) of rule 84 of the Conduct of Elections Rules, 1961, I declare that—
Shri Showaless K. Shilla of Panaliar, Jowai P.O., Jaintia Hills Dist. has been duly elected to fill the vacancy in that House by the seat of a member allotted to the State of Meghalaya having become vacant. Place: Shillong. Date: 8th April. 1972.
