342 THE GAZETTE OF IKDIA EXTRAORDINARY L^ARX XI—otu *,Reasons for the Enactment
The period of limitation, specified in section 3- of the Public Wakfs (Extension of Limitation) Act, 1959 (Central Act 29 of 1959), in its ap- plication to the State of Andhra Pradesh, for filing suits in certain cases to recover possession of immovable property forming part of a public Wakf, expired on 31st December, 1972.
2. In the State of Andhra Pradesh, a large number of Wakf proper- ties have been surveyed by the Commissioner of Wakfs, But the report of the Commissioner could not be published on account of stay orders of the High Court and for other reasons. It is expected that the survey report will be published within the next few months. In order to enable the filing of suits by the State Wakf Board to recover possession of Wakf properties in suitable cases after the publication of the* report, it is con- sidered necessary to further extend the period of limitation aforesaid up to the 31st December, 1975. This measure seeks to give effect to the above proposal.
3. The Consultative Committee uf Parliament constituted under the proviso to sub-section (2) of section 3 of the Andhra Pradesh State Legis- lature (Delegation of Powers) Act, 1973 (8 of 1973) has been consulted before the enactment of this measure as a President's Act.
