NOTIFICATIONS New Delhi, the 20th November 1973
S.O. 699 (E).—Whereas a vacancy has occurred in the Council of State's due to the death of Shri Ved Rattan Mohan, a member elected to the Council of States from Uttar Pradesh before the expiration of his term of office;
Now, therefore, in pursuance of the provisions of sub-section (1) of Section 147 of the Representation of the People Act, 195], the Election Commission hereby calls upon the elected members of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Uttar Pradesh to elect, in accordance with the provisions of the said Act and of the rules and orders made thereunder, a person to fill the vacancy so caused before the 12th December, 1973 (Wednesday),

(a) the 27th November, 1973 (Tuesday), as the last date for making nomi- nations;
(b) the 28th November, 1973 (Wednesday), as the date for the scrutiny of nominations;
(c) the 30th November, 1973 (Friday), as the last date for the withdrawal of candidatures;
(d) the 8th December, 1973 (Saturday), as the date on which a poll shall, If necessary, be taken; and
(e) the 12th December, 1973 (Wednesday), as the date before which the election shall be completed.

SEC. 3(li)] THE GAZETTE OF INDIA EXTRAORDINARY 2071S.O. 702 (E).—In pursuance of the provisions of section 21 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Election Commission, in consultation with the Govern- ment of Uttar Pradesh hereby designates the Secretary, Uttar Pradesh, Legislative Assembly, Lucknow, as the Returning Officer for the election to the Council of States to be held on pursuance of its notification No. 100/CS-UP/l/73(l), dated the 20th November, 1973.

S.O. 703 (E).—In exe"dse of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 22 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Election Commission hereby appoints Shri Satya Priya Singh, Officer on Special Duty, Uttar Pradesh Vldhau Sabha, Lucknow, to assist the Returning Officer for the election to the Council of States to be held in pursuance of its notification No. 100/CS-UP/l/73(l). dated the 20th November, 1973, in the performance of his functions.
