  1. " period is impractical. Considera- tion would however be given to- the feasibility of setting up cap- tive power stations for aluminium, production. A power intensive industry like Aluminium Industry requires constant supply of power with minimum fluctuation of supply voltage. Apart from the produc- tion loss during the power-off periods, there would be additional mental losses during the re-start period. Cutting of power would cause physical damage to the smelter equipment and reduce the life of expensive put linings. The power shortage is also likely to con- tinue for some time to come. For these reasons it is considered desirable that the primary aluminium units wl'ich may propose to augment their power supply by installing their own generating sets should be permitted to do no, at least as a stand by. Government have noted this recom- mendation. The Aluminium industry is at present in a fluid state. A detailed inquiry regarding the question of the continuance ot protection to the industry would be undertaken in early 1976, by which time it U hoped that stable condition* would prevail and a marc objective apprmiul of trie industry would bi- passible enabling specific recommendations being made to the Government. Ordered that the Resolution bt published in the Gaactu: of India and a copy thereof; communicated to all concerned. S. G. BOSE M U L U C K, Sec* ↩
