NOTIFICATIONS
New Delhi, the 2nd February 1977
G.S.R. 54 (E).—In exercise of the powers conferred by section 7 of the Beedi Workers Welfare Cess Act, 1976 (56 of 1976), the Central Government hereby makes the following rules namely:—
CHAPTER I—GENERAL
1. Short Title and Commencement—These rules may be called the Beedi Workers Welfare Cess Rules, 1977.
(2) They shall crane into force on the Fifteenth day of February, 1377.
2. Definitions.—(1) In these rules, unless the context otherwise requires — (a) 'Act' means the Beedi Workers Welfare Cess Act, 1976 (56 of 1976); (b) 'Cess' means the cess levied and collected under sub-section (1) of section 3 of the Act;
(c) 'Commissioner' means a Welfare Commissioner appointed under sub- section (1) of section 8 of the Beedi Workers Welfare Fund Act, l978 (62 of 1976);

3. Application of Act 1 of 1944 and the Rules made thereunder.—Save as otherwise provided in these rulea, the provialona of the .QentjiftL $KCJ*" *nd Salt Act, 1944 (l "f 1944) and the rules made thereunder, including flis^rovisiona re- lating to petund of duty, shall, so tar as may be,, apply In relation .to the levy and collection of the cess as they apply in relation to the levy aijd ejection of the duty of excise on tobacco under that Act,
4. Recovery of excise duty.—The duty of excise levied under section 3 of the Act on tobacco issued to any person from a warehouse for any purpose in connec- tion with the manufacture of beedi, shall be collected by the Central Excise Offi- cer-in charge of the warehouse.
5 Return regarding Collection of Cess.—The Collector of Central Excise of every region shall send to the Commissioner concerned on or before the end of every month a return indicating the amount of cess collected and credited to the Fund during the previous month.

G.8.R, 55(E).—In exercise of the powers conferred by aub-section (3) of Sec- tion 1 of the Beedi Workers Welfare Cess Act, 1976 (56 of 1"76), the Central Government hereby appoints the Fifteen day of February. 1977, as the date on which the said Act shall come into force.

G.SR 60(E).—In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (3) of Sec- tion 1 of the Beedl Workers Welfare Cess Act, 1976 (56 of 1978), the Central Government hereby fixes the rate of 25 paise per kilogram of tobacco Issued to any person from a warehouse for any purpose in connection with the manufacture of beedl, as the rate at which the duty of excise shall be levied and collected by way of cess for the purposes of the said Act with effect On and from 15th Febru- ary, 1977.

G.8.B 57 (E).—In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-lection (8) of BeC-> tion 1 of the Beedi Workers Welfare Fund Act, 1976 (62 of 1976). the Central Goyernment hereby appoints the Fifteenth day of February. 1877, as the date on which the said Act shall come into force.
