THE REGISTRATION (PONDICHERRY AMENDMENT)
REGULATION, 1977

Promulgated by the President in the Twenty-eighth Year of the Republic of India.
A Regulation further to amend the Registration Act, 1908, as in force in the Union territory of Pondicherry.
In exercise of the powers conferred by the second proviso to clause (1) of article 240 of the Constitution, the President is pleased to promulgate the following Regulation made by him:—
1. (1) This Regulation may be called the Registration (Pondicherry Amendment) Regulation, 1977
(2) It extends to the whole of the Union territory of Pondicherry.
(3) It shall come into force on such date as the Administrator may, by notification in the Pondicherry Gazette, appoint.

2. In the Registration Act, 1908, as in force in the Union territory of Pondicherry (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act), in section 69, in sub-section (1), after clause (b), the following clause shall be 18 of 1908.
73 THE GAZETTE OF INDIA EXTRAORDINARY [PART II—SEC. 1] inserted, namely: —" (bb) providing for the grant of licences to document writers, the revocation of such licences, the terms and conditions uubject to which and the authority by which, such licences shall be granted or renewed or revoked, the penalties for breaches of the termu aad conditions of such licence, the authority by which such breaches shall be investi- gated, the scale of fees to be charged by document writers, the exemption of any class of document writers from the licensing pro- visions, the conditions subject to which such exemption may be granted, and generally for all purposes connected witti the writing of documents to be presented for registration;".

3. In the principal Act, section 78 shall be renumbered as sub-section (I) thereof and, after sub-section (1) as so renumbered, the following sub-section shall be inserted, namely: —
"(2) The State Government, if it is of opinion that there are reasonable grounds for doing so, may, by order published in the Official Gazette, remit in the whole or any part of tne Union terri- tory of Pondlcherry, any fee or fees payable in respect of any matter or matters enumerated in clauses (a) to (i) of sub-section (J), either generally or for any particular class or classes of cases and i*1 respect of persons generally or of any particular class or classes of persons.".
