New Delhi, the 6th July 1977
S.O. 533(E).—In pursuance of section 12 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 (43 of 1951), the President is pleased to call upon the elected members of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Tamil Nadu to elect, in accordance with the provisions of the said Act and rules and orders made thereunder, six members to fill the seats of the members of the Council of States win retire on the 2n 1 April, 1976, on the expiration of their term of office.

S.O. 534(E),—Whereas the President has by a notification published in the Gazette of India, on the 6th July, 1977, called upon the elected members of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly to elect six members to the Council of States;
Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of sec- tion 39 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Election Commission hereby appoints with respect to the eaid election—
(a) 13 July, 1977 (Wednesday), as the date for making nominations; (b) 14 July, 1977 (Thursday), as the date for the scrutiny of nominations; (c) 16 July, 1977 (Saturday), as the last date for the withdrawal Of candidatures;
(d) 23 July, 1977 (Saturday), as the date On which a poll shall, if necessary.
be taken; and
(e) 25 July, 1977 (Monday), as the date before which election shall be completed.

S.O. 535 (E).—In pursuance of section 56 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Election Commission hereby fixes the hours from 10 00 a. m. to 3.00 p. m as the hours during which the poll shall, if necessary be taken at the bien- nial election to the Council of States in the State of Tamil Nadu to be held in' pursuance of the notification under section 12 of the said Act, published in the Gazette of India on the 6th July, 1977.

S.O. 63S(E) —In pursuance of the provisions of section 21 of the Representa- tion of the Peop'e Act, 1951, the Election Commission, m consultation with the Government of Tamil Nadu hereby designates the Secretarv Legislative Assem- bly Department, Tamjl Nadu, as the Returning Officer for the biennial elections to the Council of States to be held in the State of Tamil Nndu m pursuance of the notification under section 12 of the said Act published in the Gazette of India on the 6th July, 1977.

S.O. 537(E).—In exercise of the powers conferred bv sub-section (1) of sec- tion 22 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Election' Commission hereby appoints the Deputy Secretary, Legislative Assembly Department, Tamil Nadu, to assist the Returning Officer in the performance of his functions for the biennial elections to the Council of States to be held in pursuance of the notifica- tion under section 12 of the said Act, published m the Gazette of India on the 6th July, 1977.
