S.O. 540(E).—In pursuance of section 12 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 (43 of 1951) the President is pleased to call upon the elected' member- of the Legislative Assembly of the Union territory of Pondicherry to elect, in accordance with the provisions of the said Act and rules and orders made thereunder, one member to fill the scat of the member of the Council of State who retired on the 6th August ,1975 in the expiration of his term of office

ELECTION COMMISSION OF INDIA NOTIFICATIONS New Delhi, the 8th July 1077

SO. 641 (E),—Whereas the President has by a notification published in the Gazette of India, on the 8th July, 1977, called upon the elected members of the Pondicherry Legislative Assembly to elect one member to the Council of States;

Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of sec- tion 39 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Election Commission hereby appoints with respect to the said election—

(a) 15 July, 1977 (Friday;, as the last date for making nominations; (b) 16 Ju!y, 1977 (Saturday), as the date for the scrutiny of nominations; (c) 18 July, 1977 (Mcnday). as the last date for the withdrawal of candi- datures,

(d) 25 July, 1977 (Monday), as the date on which a poll shall, if necessary, be taken; and

(e) 27 July, 1977 (Wednesday), as the date before which the election shall be completed.

SO. 544'E).—In exercise cf the powers conferred by su^-^c+ion (1) oi section 22 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Election Commission hereby appoints the Assistant Chief Electoral Officer, Pondicherry to assist the Return- ing Officer in the performance of his functions for the biennial election to the Council of States to be held in pursuance of the notification under section 12 of the said Act published in the Gazette of India on the 8th July. 1977,
