NOTIFICATION

New Delhi, the 25th January, 1980S.O. 73(E).—Whereas for the purpose of holding a general ©lection to the House of the People, the President of India had by notification issued under section 14 of the Represen- tation of the People Act, 1951 (43 of 1951), and published in the Gazette of India on the 3rd December, 1979 called upon the parliamentary constituencies to elect members to the House of the People : 1130 G.1./79 (229)

And whereas bhri Krushn.i Chandra Mahapatra, a conlct- ing candidate from 21-Keonjhar (ST) parliamentary consti- tuency, wt the said general election, died on the 26th Decem- ber, 1979 and in consequence thereof the Returning Officer for that constituency had countermanded the poll under and in accordance with section 52 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 and reported the fact to the Election Com- mission ;

in all respects as if for a new election ;

And whereas the Election Commission has recom- mended the 25th January, 1980, as the date on which the President of India may be pleased to publish a notification in the Gazette of India calling upon 21-Kconjhar (ST) parlia- mentary constituency to elect a member to the House of the People ;

Now, therefore, in pursuance of the provisions contained in section 14 of the Representation of the People Act. 1951 (43 of 1951), the President is pFeased to call upon 21- Keonjhar (ST) parliamentary coaitituency to elect a member to the House of the People in accordance with the provisions of the said Act and of the rules and orders made thereunder.

No. 4"2/OR-IIP/79(l).—In purguaace of the provisions of section 30 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 (43 of 1951), the Hlection Commission hereby appoints, with respect lo the ^o-tion to he held in 21-Keonihj!' .'STI parliamentary constituency in the State, of Orissa, in pursu- a'lct or the ('icMdu'l's notiliovion published n the O i/elte of Tndia on the 25th January, 1980,—

(a) the 1st February, 1980 (Friday), as the last date

for making nominations ;

(b) the 2nd February, 1980 (Saturday), as the date for

the scrutiny of nominations ;

(c) the 4th February, 1980 (Monday), as the last date

for (he withdrawal of candidatures ;

(d) the 24th February, 1980 (Sunday), as tho date on

which a poll shall, if necessary, be taken ; and

(c) the 29th February, 1980 (Friday), as the date be-

fore which the election shall be completed.

of section 56 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 (43 of 1951), the Election Commission herebyfixesthe hours from 8.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. as the hours during which a poll shall, if necessary, bo taken at the election to the House of the People from 21-Keonjhar (ST) Parliamentary Consti- tuency in the State jf Orissa in pursuance of the President's notification published in the Gazette of India Extraordinary dated the 25th January, 1980.
