NOTIFICATIONS

New Delhi, the 14th July, 1980

S.O. 541(E).—Whereas a vacancy has occurred in the Council of States due to resignation of Shri V. V. Swami- nathan, a member elected to the Council of States from Tamil Nadu before the expiration of his term of office ;

S.O. S42(E).—In pursuance of the provisions of sub-sec- tion (1) of section 39 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Election Commission hereby appoints for the elec- tion to the Council of States to be held in pursuance of its notification No. 100/CS-TN/1/80(1), dated the 14th July, 1980 :— (a) 21st July, 1980 (Monday), as the last date for mak- ing nominations; Now, therefore, in pursuance of the provisions of sub- section (1) of Section 147 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Election Commission hereby calls upon the elected members of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Tamil Nadu to elect, in accordance with the provisions of the said Act and of the rules and orders made thereunder, a person to fill the vacancy so caused before 5 August, 1980. (e) 5th August, 1980 (Tuesday), as the date before which

the election shall be completed.

S.O. 543(E).—In exercise of the powers conferred by sec- tion 56 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Election Commission hereby fixes the hours from 10.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. as the hours during which a poll shall, if neces- sary, be taken for the election to the Council of States to be held in pursuance of its notification No. 100/CS-TN/1/SO(1), dated 14th July, 1980.

[No. 10O/CS-TN/l/8(X3)] S.O. 544(E).—In exercise of the powers conferred by sec- tion 21 of the Representation of the People Act 1951, the Election Commission, in consultation with the Government of Tamil Nadu, hereby designates the Secretary, Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Department, Madras to be the Return- ing Officer for the election to the Council of States to be held in pursuance of its notification No. 100/CS-TN/1/80(1), dated 14th July, 1980.

S.O." 545(E),—Tn exercise of the powers conferred by sub- section (1) of section 22 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Election Commission hereby appoints the licputy Secretary (A), Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly De- partment, Madras to assist the Returning Officer for the elec- tion .to the Council of States to be held in pursuance of its notification No. 100/CS-TN/1/80(1), dated the 14th July. 1980, in the performance of his functions.
