a member elected to the Council of States from Maharashtra before the expiration of his term of office;
Now, therefore, in pursuance of the provisions of sub-section (1) of Section 147 of the Representation of the People Act. 1951, the Election Commission hereby calls upon the elected members of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Maharashtra to elect, in accordance with the provisions of the said Act and of the Rules and orders made thereunder, a person to fill the vacancy so called before 12 th August. 1980.

(a) 28th July, 1980 (Monday), as the last date for making nominations;
(c) 31st July, 1980 (Thursday), aa the last date for with-
drawal of candidatures ;
(d) 8th August, 1980 (Friday), as the date on which a
poll shall, if necessary, be taken; and
(e) 12th August, 1980 (Tuesday), as the dato before which
the election shall be completed.

S.O. 553(E).—In exercise of the powers conferred by sec- tion 56 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Election Commission hereby fixes the hours from 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. as the hours during which a poll shall, if neces- sary) be taken for the election to the Council of States to be held in pursuance of Its notification No. 100/CS-MT/l/ 10(1), dated 21M July, 1980.

S.O. 554(E).—In exercise of the powers conferred by sec- tion 21 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Election Commission, in consultation with, the Government of Maharashtra, hereby designates Shri G. V. Abhyankar, Deputy Secretary, Maharashtra Legislature Secretariat, Bombay to be the Returning Officer for the election to the Council of State* to bo held in pursuance of its notification No. 100/CS-MT/ 1/80(1), dated 21st July, 1980.

S.O. 555(E).—In exercise of the powers conferred by sub- section (1) of section 22 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Election Commission hereby appoints Shri P. D. Bokil, Under Secretary to the Maharashtra legislature Secre- tariat, Bombay to assist the Returning Officer for the election to the Council of States to be held k pursuance of its noti- fication No. 100/CS-MT/1/80O), dated the 21st Juiy, 1980, in the performance of his functions.
