Now, therefore, in pursuance of the provisions of sub- section (1) of Section 147 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Election Commission hereby calls upon the elected members of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Gujarat to elect,- in. accordance with the provisions of the said Act and of the rules and orders made thereunder, a person to fill the vacancy so caused before 31st March, 1983.

2 THE GAZETTE OF INDIA : EXTRAORDINARY [PART II—SEC. 3(iil)]O.N. 30(E).-—In pursuance of the provisions of sub-section (1) of section 39 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Election Commission hereby appoints for the elec- tion to the Council of States to bo held in pursuance of its nolificstion No. 100|CS-GJ|l|83(l), dated the 7th March, 1983 :—
(a) 14th March, 19R3 (Monday), as the last date for
making nominations;
(b) 15th March, 1983 (Tuesday), as the date for the
scrutiny of nominations; r
(c) 17th March, 1983 (Thursday), as the last date for
withdrawal of candidatures;
(d) 25th March, 1983 (Friday), as the date on which
a poll shall, if necessary, be taken; and i
(e) 31st March, 1983 (Thursday), as the date before
which the election shall bo completed.

O.N. 31(E).—In exercise of the powers conferred by sec- tion 56 of the Representation of the Peopfe Act, 1951, the Election Commission hereby fixes the hours from 1.00 P.M. to 3.00 P.M. as the hours during which a poll shall,.if neces- sary, he taken for the election to the Council of States to be held in pursuance of its notification No. 100|CS--GJ|l|83(l), dated the 7th March, 1983.
[No. 1OOICS-GJ|1|83(3)I O.N. 32(E).—In exercise of iho powers conferred by sec- tion 21 of the Representation of People Act, 1951, the Election Commission, in consultation with the Government of Gujarat hereby designates the Secretary, Gujarat Legislature Secretariat, Gandhinagnr, to be the Returning Officer for the election to the Council of States to be held in pursuance of its notification No. IOO/CS/GJ|1|83(1), dated tho 7th March, 1983.

O.N. 33(E).—In exercise of the powers conferred by sub- section (I) of section 22 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Election Commission, hereby appoints the Joint Secretary, Gujaiat Legislature Secretariat, Gandhinagar, to assist the; Returning Officer for the election to the Council of States to bo hei'd in pursuance of its notification No. 100| CS-GJ|1|83(1) dated the 7th March, 1983 in the perfor- mance of his functions.
