NOTIFICATIONS
New Delhi, the 16th August, 1983
O.N. 80(E).—Whereas a vacancy has occurred in the Council of States due to the resignation of Shri Ramakrishna Hegde, a member elected to the Council of States from Karnataka, before the ex- piration of his term of office :
Now, therefore, in pursuance of the provisions of sub-section (1) of section 147 of the Represen- tation of the People Act, 1951 the Election Com- mission hereby calls upon the elected members of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Karnataka to elect, in accordance with the provisions of the said Act and of the rules and orders made there- under, a person to fill the vacancy so caused before 5th September, 1983.

2 THE GAZETTE OF JNDIA : EXTRAORDINARY [PART U -Sue. 3(iii)]O.N. 81(E).—In pursuance of the provisions of sub-section (1) of section 39 of the Representation of the people Act, 1951 the Election Commission hereby appoints for the election to the Council of States to be held in pursuance of its notification No. 100[CS-KT[lj83(l), dated the 16th August, 1983: (a) the 23rd August, 1983 (Tuesday), as the last date for making nominations ; (b) the 24th August, 1983, (Wednesday), as the date for scrutiny of nominations ;
(c) the 26th August, 1983 (Friday) as the last date for withdrawal of candidatures; (d) the 2nd September, 1983 (Friday), as the date on which a poll shall, if necessary, be taken ; and
(e) the 5th September, 1983 (Monday) as the date before which the election shall be completed.

O.N. 83(E).—In exercise of the powers confer- red by section 21 of the Representation of the people Act, 1951, the Election Commission in consultation with the Government of Kamataks hereby designates Shri K.S. Singri Gowda, Secre- tary, Karnataka Legislature, Vidhana Soudha, Ban galore, to be the Retu-rning Officer for the election to the Council of States to be held in pursuance of its notification No. lOOiCS-KTjl [83(1) dated the 16l'h August, 1983.

O.N. 84(E).—In exercise of the powers confer- red by sub-section (1) of section 22 of the Repre- sentation of the People Act, 1951, the Election Co- mmission hereby appoints Shri R. Dharmasadhaka, Registrar, Karnataka Legislature Vidhana Soudha, Bangalore, t'o assist the Returning Officer for the election in the Council of States to be held in pursuance of its notification No. 100|CS- KT|] 183(1), dated the 16th August, 1983 in the performance of his functions.
