S.O. 928 (E).—The following Order made by the President is pubb'shed for general information :-

ORDER

Whereas I, Zail Singh, President of Jndia, had on the 24th June, 1983, made an Order suspend- ing for a period of six months from that date the operation of certain provisions of the Government of Union Territories Act, 1963 (20 of 1963) (hereinafter referred to as "the Act" in relation to the Union territory of Pondicherry, and making certain incidental and consequential provisions which appeared to me to be necessary and expe- dient for administering the Union territory of Pondicherry in accordance with the provisions of article 239 of the Constitution during the aforesaid period ;

And whereas I have received a report from the Administrator of the Union territory of Pondicherry and after considering the report and other infor- mation received by me, I am satisfied that the situation in the Union territory of Pondicherry continues to be such that the administration of that Union territory cannot be carried on in accordance with the provisions of the Act and that for the proper administration of the Union territory, it is necessary that the operation of the provisions of the Act suspended by me under the said Order should continue to remain suspended and the inci- dental and consequential provisions made therein should continue to operate beyond the period of six months mentioned in the said Order ;

Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers con- ferred by section 51 of the Act and of all other powers enabling me in that behalf, I hereby direct—

(a) that the operation of the provisions of the Act suspended by virtue of clause (a) of my aforesaid Order shall continue to remain suspended and the incidental and consequential provisions made by virtue of clause (b) of the said Order shall continue to be operative, for a further period of six months with effect from the 24th day of December, 1983; and
