NOTIFICATION
New Delhi, the 28th December, 1983
O-N. I24(E).—Whereas the Election Commission by its Notiacation No. 464/AS-HP/83 dated the 28th June, 1983 published in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part II, section 3(iii) of that date, extended the date for completion of poll in 5-Kokrajhar (ST), 6-B.irpeta, 9-Tezpur, 10-Nowgong, 13- Dibrugarh and 14-LakhImpur parliamentary constituencies, from 28th February, 1983, as originally fixed, to 31st December 1983;
And whereas the Chief Electoral Officer, Assam, has reported that in view of the fact that inspite of much improvement in the situation in the State, there is still tension in many areas and them have been miny a violent incidents n.nd has abo apprehended group-clashes causing serious lav and other pro- blem m the entire Stac if elections arc held now and has there- fore recommended the extension of the date for the completion of election in the parliamentary constituencies mentioned in ihe fore-going paragraph upto ihc 30th June, 1984;
And where as the commivii'in is S'ui .ficJ tint such extension is necessary;
Now, therefore, in exercise of the pjw.rs conferred by article 324 of ths C.msiitutijn, section 1?3 and 30 of the Re- presentation of the People Act, 1951, read with section 21 of the General Claims Act,1951, read with section 21 of the General Clauses Act, 1897, ami all other powers enabling it in this behalf, the Election Commissi >n hereby makes the following amend- ments in Us Njtilic-jti.in N.i. 464/AS-HP/83(l) dated 12th January, 1983, as subsequently amended hy two Notifications No. 464/AS-HP/R3 dated 27ih February, 1983 and 28ih June, 1983;
(A) Tn the last para of the Commission's Notification No. 464/AS-HP/83O) dated 12 January, 1983, as amended by subsequent Notifications No. 464/AS-HP/83 dated 27th February, 1983 and 28th June, 1983, for the date "31st December, 1983 (Saturday)" the date "30th June, 1984 ("Saturday)" shall he substituted;
(B) In clausc(e) (ii), as inserted in Commission's Notifica- tion No. 464/AS-HP/83(2) dated the 12th January 1983, by Commission's Notification No. 464/AS-HP/83 dated the 27th February, 1983 and subsequently amended by Commission's Notification No. 464/AS-HP/83 dated 28th June, 1983, for the date "the 31st December. 1983 (Saturday)" the date "the 30(1) June, 1984 (Saturday)" shall he substituted.
