NOTIFICATION
New Delhi, the 19th May, 1984
NO. 157|84-CUSTOMS
G.S.R. 384(E).—In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 25 of the Customs Act, 1962 (52 of 1962), the Central Government, being satisfied that it is necessary in the public interest so to do, hereby exempts raw materials, components and sub-assemblies required for the manufacture of the goods speci- fied in the Table annexed hereto for supply to the Doordarshan under the Special TV Expan- sion Plan, from —
(i) so much of that portion of the duty of customs leviable thereon which is speci- fied in the First Sohedule to the Cus- toms Tariff Act, 1975 (51 of 1975) as is in excess of the amount calculated at the rate of twenty-five per cent ad valorem; and
(ii) the whole of the additional duty leviable thereon under section 3 of the said
Customs Tariff Act, subject to the fol- lowing conditions, namely : —
(a) the importer, at the time,,of clearance, produces a certificate from an officer not lower in rank than a Deputy Sec- retary to the Government of India in the Ministry of Information and Broad- casting and an officer not lower in rank than a Joint Director in the De- partment of Electronics of the Govern- ment of Jndia to the effect that the said raw materials, components and sub-assemblies are required for the manufacture of the said goods under the Special TV Expansion Plan;
(b) the importer produces a certificate from an officer not lower in rank than a De- puty Secretary to the Government of India in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and an officer not lower in rank than a Joint Director in the Department of Electronics of the Government of India, within a period of twelve months from the date of clear- ance of the said raw materials, c o m~ ponents and sub assemblies, or within such extended peiiod as the Assistant Collector of Customs may allow, to the effect that the imported raw materials, components and sub-assemblies have been used for the manufacture of the said goods under the Special TV Ex- pansion Plan and that such goods have been duty received for use by the Door- darshan;
(el the importer at the time of clearance ex- ecutes a bond in such form and for such as may be specified by the Assis- tant Collector of Customs, undertaking to pay, on demand, in respect of such quantity of the said imported raw mate- rials, components and sub-assemblies as are not proved to the satisfaction of fhe Assistant Collector of Customs to have been used for the manufacture of the said goods under the Special TV Expansion Plan, an amount equal to the duty leviable on such raw materials, components and sub-assemblies but for the exemption contained herein and that already paid at the time of impor- tation.
Explanation:— For the purposes of this notifica-
tion,—
(i) "Doordarshan" means the offices, kendras and other establishments, by whatever name called, which form part of or are under the Directorate General, Door- darshan, of the Government of India in

the Ministry of Information and Broad- casting;
(ii) "Special TV Expansion Plan" menas the Special TV Expansion Plan of the Government of India in the Minis- try of Information and Broadcasting.
