S.O. 459(E).—The following Order made by the President is published for general information :—

ORDER

Whereas, I, Zail Singh, President of India, had on the 24th June 1983 made an Order suspending for a period of six months from that date the operation of certain provisions of the Government of Union Territories Act 1963 (20 of 1963) (hereinafter referred to as "the Act") in relation to the Union Territory of Pondicherry, and making certain inciden- tal and consequential provisions which appeared to me to be necessary and expedient for administering the Union Territory of Pondicherry in accordance with the provisions of article 239 of the Constitution during the aforesaid period;

And whereas I had on the 23rd December, J983 made a further Order continuing the suspension of operation of the provisions of the Act suspended under the aforesaid Order for a further period of six months with effect from the 24th December, 1983;

And whereas I have received a report from the Administrator of the Union Territory of Pondicherry and after considering the report and .other infoi- mation received by me, I am satisfied that the situ- ation in the Union Territory of Pondicherry continues' to be such that the administration of that Union Territory cannot be carried on in accordance with the provisions of the Act and that for the proper administration of that Union Territory, it is neces- sary that the operation of the provisions of the Act suspended by me under the first mentiqned Order should continue to remain suspended and the inci- dental and consequential provisions made therein should continue to operate beyond the period of one year;

Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers con- ferred by section 51 of the Act and of all other powers enabling me in that behalf, T hereby direct—

(a) that the operation of the provisions of the Act suspended by virtue of clause (a) of the first mentioned Order shall continue to remain suspended and the incidental and consequential provisions made by vir- tue of clause (b) of the said Order shall continue to be operative, for a furtlier period of six months with effect from the 24th day of June, 1984; and
