G.S.R. 488 (E).—Whereas a draft of the Preven- tion of Food Adulteration (Amendment) Rules, 1982 was published as required by sub-section (i) of section 23 of the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act, J954(37 of 1954) with the notification, of the Government of India in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (Department of Health) No. G.S.R. 699. dated the 5th August, 1982 at pages 1994 to 1995 of the Gazette of India Part II, Section 3, sub- section (i), dated the 21st August, 1982 for inviting objections and suggestions from all persons likely to be affected thereby before the expiry of ninety day* from the date of publication of the said notification in the Official Gazette;
And whereas it is' considered desirable to republish the said draft rules with some modification for informa- tion of all persons likely to be affected thereby;
Now, therefore, the following draft of the rules further to amend the Prevention of Food Adulteration Rules, 1955 which the Central Goveinmcnt proposes to make, after consultation with the Central Commit- tee for Food Standards, in exercise of the powers con- ferred by sub-section (1) of section 23 of the said Act is hereby republishcd as required by the said sub-sec- tion for information of aJl persons likely to be affec- ted thereby, and notice is hereby given that the-said draft rules' will be taken into consideration after the expiry of a period of ninety days from the date on which copies of the Gazette of India in which this notification is published are made available to the public.
Any objection or suggestion which may be received from any person with respect to the said d;aft rules before the expiry of the period so specified will be considered by the Central Government.
DRAFT RULES
I. (1) These rules may be called the Prevention
of Food Adulteration (Amendment) Rules, 1984.
(2) They shall come into the force on the date of their final publication in the Official Gazette, except rule 3 which shall come into force immediately after one year from the date of such publication.
2, In the Prevention of Food Adulteration Rules
1955, (hereinafter referred to as' the said rules),— fi) In the Table bc'ow rule 22,—
(a) against item 1, for the figures and letters "220 ml.", the figures and letters "250 ml." shall be substituted;
(b) in item 32, the words "Dried Milk'", the words "Milk Power, skimmed milk powder, partly skimmed milk powder, malted milk food and such other powders containing milk as major ingredient" shall be substituted.
3. In rule 49 of the said rules, after sub-rule (15), the following sub^rule shall be insetted, namely:—
"(16) Milk powder and condensed milk shall not be sold except under Indian Standard Institution Certifi- cation mark".
4. In Appendix B of the said ruies,—
(i) LO; item A.I 1.01.01, the following item s-;?all be substituted, namely:—

(viii) in item A.I 1.02.07.01, the following shall . be added at the end, namely:—
"either singly or in combination. It may contain Calcium Chloride (anhydrous) not exceeding 0.02 per cent by weight";
(ix) in item A.I 1.02.08, the following .ihall be added at the end, namely:—
"In case of ice-cream, where the chocolate portion forms a separate layer, only the ice a earn portion shal! conform to the standards of ice-cream";
(x) .n item A. 11.02.16. for the words and figures "fat content of the product shall be between 1-6 and 24.0 per cent", the words and figure, "fat content of the prcducr shall be more than 1-5 and les- thrn 26.0 per cent" shall be subs'it'uted;
(xi) in item A M .02.17.-
