AMENDMENT TO THE REGULATIONS RELATING TO REGISTRATION FOR AND THE AWARD OF THE DEGREE OF DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY

"That, the following be added as a proviso after the existing provision under sub - clauses 'a ' and 'b ' under Clause of the Regulations relating to Registration for and the Award of Degree of Doctar of Philosophy:
The above amendment to the Regulations relating to Registration for and the Award of Degree of Doctor of losophy was laid before the Senate at its meeting held on 24th and 29th August , 2006, as is requited under Section (1) of the Kerala University Act, 1974,

4th January 2007 TheAcademic Council at its meeting held on 5th November 2005, has approved the following Regulations for the award of Degree of Doctor of Letters (D.Litt) by submission of Thesis.
REGULATIONS FOR THE AWARD OF DEGREE OF DOCTOR OF LETTERS (DLITT) BY SUBMISSION OF THESIS
1. These Regulations are applicable for non- Science subjects.
2. A candidate for the Degree of Doctor of Letters shall have taken (1 ) a Post Graduate Degree ( ii) aPh.D. Degree in the concerned subject of this University or of any other University recognized by this University as equivalent thereto and shall have carried out post - doctoral research work for not less than 7 years.
3. The candidate shall have carried out independent post -doctoral research for not less than 7 years in the capacity of Research Fellow/Associate Faculty/Member Scientists or in any similar capacity in an Institution ofthis University or a Research Institution recognizedby the University. Only an established researcher with good track record of research as evidenced by publications in approved National / International Journals and monographs shall be considered. Successful guidance of doctoral research , operation of research projects etc, may be considered as additional eligibility criteria for the award of the Degree.
4 Acandidate shall not be required to register for the D.Litt . Degree.
5. When the candidate proposes to submit the application for the award of D.Litt . Degree, it shall be submitted in the prescribed format along with the summary of the research work to be considered for the Degree , reprims of the relevant publications , list of publications and the prescribed fee. The application shall be screened by the Vice-Chancellor in consultation with the Chairman , Board of Studies concerned and the Dean and one external Expert, if the Vice -Chancellor desires so and necessary orders granting sanction to submit the research work for D.Litt. or otherwise shall be issued within a month, The External Experts should be from outside the State , except in the case of Malayalam. The Bio -Data of the Expert is to be obtained from the Dean , concerned.
6. Within three months from the issue of sich sanction, the candidate shall submit his / her published work. In shall consist of published papers , monographs and shall relate the contribution the candidate has made during the period of 7 years immediately preceeding the submission of the thesis. The work proposed to be considered shall be on a focal theme or a theme with contimiry and shall be published in approved refereed international journals and the candidate shall have to his credit at least ten publications , which are entirely authored by himler,
7. Four copies of the compiled work shall be submitted. A declaration signed by the candidate that the work has been done by him independently and a certificate to the effect that it has not been previously submitted for D.Litt. Degree elsewhere , shall be furnished. Technical , infrastructural, financial and other support, if any, for carrying out the work, shall be acknowledged.
8. The work shallbe evaluated by three external examiners from outside the country except in those subjects coming under the Faculty of Oriental Studies. In subjects coming under the Faculty of Oriental Studies, the External Examiners may be appointed from outside the State. These examiners shall be appointed by the Syndicate from a panel of Experis providedby the Dean of the Faculty concerned .
9. D.Litt. Degree shall be granted only if all the three examiners make recommendation for the award of the Degree
10. On the recommendation of the award of the Degree of Doctor of Letters , the candidate shall give an acceptance lecture to an invited andience in the University.
11. The candidate shall not be permitted to apply for the Degree more than twice.

Note: The above provisey shall come into force wah immediate effect.

Ans and objectives of the course
The one year PL Diplome programme is designed to introduce the new media techmologies and to explore innovative programming skills in various media streams. The course will be ideally suited for:
Students who wish to specialize careers in visual journalism and allied areas
Qualified and experienced journalists who wish to explore new possibilities in interactive web and broadcast jounalitns and in allied areas.
Teachers, teacher- trainers and educational executives who wish to acquire skills in the new inedia concepts and practices, for taking up new challenges in educational training and in the preparation of course materials for schools and colleges, in multi-media formats.
2. Instruction.
The course instruction will be a combination of lectures with intensive hands - on training in web designing and multi - media production. The strongest emphasis will be given to practicals . The production training is being arranged at the State of Art Media Labs in C - DIT. While emphasizing the professional standards in training , the University taker very seriously its role of catering to the wider educational needs of the society. The Department will organize seminars and workshops on diverse issues of topical importance that affect not only India, hut also the world in general .
As assignments are given sad monitored on a regular basis, intensive homework will be required. Though itisa regime ofhard work there will be time built in for critical reflection.
English willbe the thedrum of instruction Students are expected to have a good working knowledge of the English language.
Rutes and Regulations for the PGDCM Programme
L. Title ofthe Course.
The title of the course programme shallbe Post Graduate Diploma in Convergence Media ( PGDCM).
2.Academic Collaboration
Kerala University Department of Communication and Journalism , in collaboration with the Centre for Development of Imaging Technology ( C-DIT) , Thiruvallom ( an autonomous instination under the Government of Kerala ) will offer the coursejointly, Classes will be held both in the University Campus and C- DIT's campus
3. Durition of the Course
It shall be one year, comprising two semesters ( each having 5 months ), an internship and a multimedia project werk (one month for each programine )
4 Number of courses/subjects
There will be four courses /subjects in each semester and two more courses ( Internship & Project work) um the last two months of instruction Each course will be assigned a cade consisting of the following:
Three characters denoting the diploma programme
One digit indicating the level of the counse
One digit indicating the semester
The last digit indicating the serial number in that semester
For example, the code number for the first course in the first semester of PGDCM will be DCM 411 DCM411 Baxies of Communication
DCM denotes Diploma in ConvergenceMédia
4denotes the level of the course- the Post Graduate Diploma
The second digst in the code meant First Semester
The last digit means the first course in the First Semester
The third and the fourth courses in the second semester shall be electives. There will be three pairs of opticals for specialization under each clective. In case of electives , (E) ' shall be added with the code number. Code number for Internship and Project Work shall be DCM- 425 & DCM-426 respectively, 5. Eligibility for Admission
Students having a bachelor's degree from the University of Kerala or from any other Universities recognized by theUniversity as equivalent thereto, in any discipline, shall be eligible to apply for PGDCM
6. Number ofreatt
Thirty students shall be admitted to PGDCM.
7. Reservation ofseats
The rules for reservation of seats for the candidates belonging to SC/ST and SEBC communities laid down by the University from time to time shall be observed
8. Sponsored candidates:
Two seats, in addition to 30 seats , will be given to candidates sponsored by accredited media organizations. If there are more than two applications for the sponsored seats, these candidates will have to appear for an interview for selection.Weightage may be given to the length of service and additional qualifications . The sponsoring agency shall pay all the fees
9. Admission:
Admissionto PGDCM will be based on the marks obtained in the entrance test to be conducted by the University. The test will be designed for testing the applicant's general awareness and aptitude in visual communication. Maximum marks for the two-hour test willbe 100.
10. Administration.
Alladministrative work related to notification, selection of candidates, fee collection and issuance of certificates shall bethe responsiblity of the University Department, where the PGDCM course is offered . All day-to- day work related to academic co-ordination of PGUCM shall be the responsibility of C-DIT
11. Combict of Classes
An Academic Co- ordination Committee , with two members each from the University Department of Communication and Journalism and C-DIT, chaired by the HOD of the department shall prepare a work schedule for the course.
12. Scheme of Evaluation:
The evaluation of PGECA Programme consists of two parts, viz. Continuous Assessment ( CA) and End Semester Assessment (ESA). The total marks allotted for each course/ subject in first and second sentesters (8)Papers ) shall be 100. Out of this 40 marks shall be allotted for CA and 60 marks for ESA. The last two courses- Internship Programme and ProjectWork- shallbe conducted in the eleventh and twelfth months of PGDCM This period is to be considered as extended second semester. Marks for internship (max. marks 50) will be awarded by an internal examination board. The pre-production exercise for the project work ( max. marks 50) will also be evaluated by an imernal examination board. All the boards of examiners shall be appointed by the University.
13. Continuons Axsseasment :
Cominious Assessment consist of four components. They are:
1. Attendence (5 marks)
2.Mid- semester examination/ appraisal (15 marks)
3. Assignment (10 mario)
4. Seminar/Workshop (10 marks)
Marks for attendance will be given in proportion to the percentage of classes attended by the studem 14. Attendance:
Astudem has to secare 75 % attendance for each course/ subject to become eligible to appear for end- semester examination of the respective course /subject. No condonation of shortage of attendance will be given . A student must get 3.75 marks out of 5. A student who fails to get minimum attendance will have to repeat the course along with the subsequent batch of PGDCM The mition fee for repetition of the course shall be decided by the University.
15. Conduct of examination:
The end - semester examination of the fast semester will be conducted by the University Department- offering the course, it shall be the responsibility of the five-member Academic Co - ordination Committee to conduct the examinañons The end semester examination of the second semester shallbe conducted by the University. The evaluation ofinternship & project work shall be conducted internally by a board of examiners appointed by the University.
Teachers shall submit the CA marks to the Head of the Department a week before the conduct of the end-semester examination and the same shall be published in the University Department and C-DIT before the commencement of the examination.
