AMENDED STATUTE

16. Head of Department.—The Professor, Reader NOTIFICATION
or Lecturer in charge of a Department shall be the No. P1. D/A2/SA/2008. 12th December 2008.
Head of the Department. The Head of the Department
shall be nominated on a rotation basis for 3 years, It is notified that the following amendment to
starting with the senior most Professor/Reader of the Statute 16 under Chapter III of the Kannur University
Department. The Syndicate shall nominate the First Statutes 1998 passed by the Syndicate at its
Seniormost Professor as the Head of the Department for meeting held on 7-1-2008 has been assented to by the

AMENDMENT TO STATUTE 16 UNDER THE CHAPTER III-OF
THE KANNUR UNIVERSITY FIRST STATUTES 1998
That the existing Statute 16 'Head of Department' After all the Professors are given a turn, the
rotation shall then be implemented among Readers as
per seniority. It shall however be open to the teacher
who has been nominated as Head of the Department to
make a request that he shall be relieved of such a
responsibility for academic reasons. In such case the
next senior most teacher shall be the Head of the
Department. The other members of the teaching staff
shall co-operate with the Head of the Department and
shall assist him in the performance of his duties as
administrative head. In departments, which have no
Professor or Reader, the Lecturer or seniormost
Lecturer if there are more Lecturers than one shall be
the Head of the Department till Professor/ Reader is
appointed.
