Section 3 (1) (zb) of Food Safety and Standards Act 2006 define local area as any area whether urban or rural notified by the Commissioner of Food Safety to be a local area for the purpose of the Act. So the Commissioner of Food Safety should notify the local area as required by the Act. Grama Panchayaths are grouped into circles and Food Safety Officers are posted in Circle, Municipality, Corporation bases. This notification is intended to achieve the above object.
