TRAVANCORE DEVASWOM BOARD
NOTIFICATION
No. R O C. 8173/2011/Est. 30th November 2011.
(Act XIV of 1951) substituted vide Act 25 of 2008 as mentioned hereunder is made applicable for journeys performed by the President and Members with effect from 1-11-2011 subject to a maximum limit of ` 22,750 (` Twenty two thousand seven hundered and fifty only) per month for 1 (a) & (b) together excluding allowances for jounrneys undertaken to Sabarimala.
In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (g) of Sub section (2) of Section 35 of the Travancore-Cochin Hindu Religious Institutions Act, 1950 (Act XV of 1950), the Travancore Devaswom Board hereby publish for general information as required by Sub-section (3) of section 35 the following rules proposed to be made by way of amendment to the Travancore Devaswom Board (Grant of Travelling and Halting Allowances to the President and Members of the Board) amendment Rules 1993 and 2005.

- Inside the State of Kerala:— ↩
(c) for journeys by train—actual fare (first class or air- conditioned) plus fifty paisa per kilometre towards incidental expenses;
(d) for journeys by air—actural fare plus one fifth the fare for incidental expenses; subject to a maximum of rupees one hundred and twenty five for each journey.
2. Outside the State of Kerala:-
(a) for journeys by road irrespective of the distance travelled at the rate of rupees eight per kilometre plus fifty paisa per kilometre towards incidental expenses for journeys undertaken in Department vehicles, hired vehicles or own vehicle;
(b) a daily allowance of seven hundred rupees;
(c) for journeys by train or by air—the rates will be the same as those admissible for journeys performed by train or by air, as the case may be, inside the State of Kerala".
III. Rule-5:—In the existing rule 5, of the amendment rules 2005, for the figure '3000' the figure 5000 (Five Thousand only) shall be substituted.
Explanatory Note
The President and Members of the Travancore Devaswom Board are entitled for travelling allowance at the rates applicable to Ministers, the Speaker, the Deputy Speaker, the Leader of opposition and the Chief Whip as per the payment of Salaries and Allowances Act, 1951 (Act XIV of 1951), as amended from time to time. The existing schedule of the payment of salaries and allowances Act has been substituted vide Act 25 of 2008. Amendment to the rules framed by the Board is necessary to give effect to the revision, in Travancore Devaswom Board. Hence the Board decided to amend the rules with effect from 1-11-2011.
Nearly seven years have elapsed since the Halting Allowance to the President and Members of the Board was enhanced to ` 3000 (three thousand only). There was considerable increase in House Rent during the past few years. The matter was discussed in the Board and a reasonable enhancement of the amount was felt imperative. Hence the Board decided to enhance the House Rent Allowance of President and Members from ` 3,000 (Three thousand only) per mensem to ` 5,000 (Five thousand only) per mensem with effect from 1-11-2011.
