NOTIFICATION

No. 38/D/2011/KELSA. 11th December 2012.

In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 22 B of the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 (Central Act 37 of 1987), Kerala State Legal Services Authority hereby establish the Permanent Lok Adalat at Kozhikode for exercising jurisdiction of the following Public Utility Services;

(i) Transport service for the carriage of

passengers or goods by air, road, water; or

(ii) Postal, telegraph or telephone service; or

(iii) Supply of power, light or water to the public

by any establishment; or(iv) By system of public conservancy or sanitation; or The office of the Permanent Lok Adalat will be located at building bearing door No.9/622-JPQ of Kozhikode Corporation situated in Survey No.104/10, 13,105/1, 2A, 2B of Nagaram Village of Kozhikode Taluk. Permanent Lok Adalat, Kozhikode shall have jurisdictions in the area of Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts. Permanent Lok Adalat at Kozhikode shall consists of (a) a person who is or has been a District Judge or an Additional District Judge or has held Judicial Office higher in rank than that of District Judge as the Chairman and; (b) Two other persons having adequate experience in public utility service nominated by the State Government, and appointed by the State Authority as other Person-members. (v) Service in hospital or dispensary; (vi) Insurance service. Explanatory Note Section 22 B Legal Services Authorities Act (Central Act 39 of 1987) empowers the Kerala State Legal Services Authority to establish Permanent Lok Adalat at such places and for exercising jurisdiction in respect of one or more public utility service and for such areas as may be specified in the notification. The Government of Kerala as per G.O. (P) No. l/11/Law dated 1-1-2011 has accorded sanction to establish Permanent Lok Adalat at Kozhikode. The meeting of the Authority held on 29th March 2011 resolved to establish Permanent Lok Adalat at Kozhikode for exercising jurisdiction over the districts of Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod. This notification is issued to achieve the above object.
