In exercise of the powers conferred by subsection (2) of section 6 read with section 64 of the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972 (Central Act 53 of 1972), the Government of Kerala hereby make the following rules further to amend the Kerala Wildlife (Protection) Rules, 1978, issued by notification
2under G.O.(P) 52/78/AD dated 16th February 1978 and published as S.R.O.No.542/78 in the Kerala Gazette No.24 dated 30th June, 1978, namely:-
RULES
1. Short title and commencement .- (1) These rules may be called the Kerala Wildlife (Protection) Amendment Rules, 2025.
(2) They shall come into force at once.
2. Amendment of the Rules .- In the Kerala Wildlife (Protection) Rules, 1978, for rule 3, the following shall be substituted, namely:-
"3. Term of office.- The term of office of a member of the Board, other than those who are members ex-officio, shall be for a period of three years from the date of his nomination or till such period his successor is nominated, as may be approved by the Chairperson.".

Explanatory Note
(This does not form part of the notification, but is intended to indicate its general purport.)
The State Board for Wildlife, constituted as per sub-section (1) of section 6 of the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972 (Central Act 53 of 1972), consists of both ex-officio members and nominated members. Sub-section (2) of section 64 of the said Act empowers the State Government to prescribe the term of office of
3members other than those who are members ex-officio. Rule 3 of the Kerala Wildlife (Protection) Rules, 1978 provides that the term of office of a member of the Board shall be three years from the date of his appointment. Now, similar to the term of office of the members other than ex-officio in the National Board for Wildlife Rules, 2003, the Government have decided to provide for the members other than ex-officio to continue till his successor is nominated and to amend rule 3 of the Kerala Wildlife (Protection) Rules, 1978 for the above purpose.
The notification is intended to achieve the above object.
