In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 18 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 (Central Act 53 of 1972), the Government of Kerala hereby rename the "Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary" as "Aralam Butterfly
2Sanctuary" and consequently make the following amendment to the notification issued under G.O.(P) No.300/84/AD dated 15th October, 1984 and published as S.R.O.No.1376/84 in Part I of the Kerala Gazette No.45 dated 13th November,1984, namely:-
In para 2 of the notification, for the words "Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary", the words "Aralam Butterfly Sanctuary" shall be substituted.

Explanatory Note
(This does not form part of the notification, but is intended to indicate its general
purport.)
As per the notification issued under G.O.(P) No.300/84/AD dated 15 th October, 1984 and published as S.R.O.No.1376/84 in Part I of the Kerala Gazette No.45 dated 13th November,1984, the Government of Kerala declared the Aralam Farm area as the Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary for the purpose of protecting, propagating and developing wildlife and its environment.
Considering the butterfly abundance and diversity and to preserve the butterfly diversity in their habitat and to protect, propagate and develop the butterfly species in the Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary, and upon the approval and recommendation of the 5th meeting of the State Board for Wildlife (Reconstituted as per G.O.(P)No.5/2022/F&WLD dated 02/02/2022), the Government consider it appropriate to declare the above sanctuary as Kerala's first "Butterfly Sanctuary"
3and have decided to rename the "Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary" as "Aralam Butterfly Sanctuary".
The notification is intended to achieve the above object.
