In exercise of the powers conferred under item (xxxiii) of section 2 read with subsection (1) of section 8 of the Kerala Prisons and Correctional Services (Management) Act, 2010 (Act 9 of 2010), the Government of Kerala hereby establish a Sub Jail, namely "Sub Jail, Alappuzha" in reinforced buildinghaving ample sleeping and breathing space in the ward and cells. All movable and immovable properties comprised within 58.27 Cents of land in Re-survey No.1 in Block No.95 of Alappuzha West This is a digitally signed Gazette. 2 Village of Ambalapuzha Taluk in Alappuzha District. Large cells have the area of 61.89 m², small cells have the area of 25.06 m² and shall have

proper ventilation flush out latrines, urinals for the use of prisoners. The building shall contain kitchen, bathing place, work shed etc. confirming the standard and requirements of the jails as notified by the Government.

All prisoners convicted and sentenced for imprisonment for a period upto one month by the Criminal Courts in the Taluk of Ambalapuzha and Cherthala of Alappuzha District and all male remand / under trial prisoners sent by the courts of Ambalapuzha and Cherthala Taluk of Alappuzha District shall be accommodated in the Sub Jail, Alappuzha.

Explanatory Note

(This does not form part of notification, but is intended to indicate its general purport).

As per GO(Ms) No. 196/2025/Home dated 10th October 2025, Government accorded sanction for the establishment of a new Sub Jail at Alappuzha, as a solution of overcrowding in the existing buildings and other appurtenant owned by the Department.

The notification is intended to achieve the above object.
