NOTIFICATION

Sub:- Adoption of the Legal Metrology (Government Approved Test Centre) Rules, 2013,

as amended from time to time, in the Union Territory of Lakshadweep.

Whereas, the Central Government, in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 52 of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009, has notified the Legal Metrology (Government Approved Test Centre) Rules, 2013 vide Notification No. G.S.R. 593(E) dated 05.09.2013;

And whereas, the said Rules have subsequently been amended by the Central Government from time to time, including amendments notified in the years 2016, 2021, 2025 and 2026;

And whereas, the said Rules provide for approval and functioning of Government Approved Test Centres for verification of specified weights and measures, in addition to verification undertaken by Government Legal Metrology Officers;

And whereas, the UT Administration considers it necessary to adopt the said regulatory framework for establishment/recognition and functioning of Government Approved Test Centres in the Union Territory of Lakshadweep

Now, therefore, it is notified that the Legal Metrology (Government Approved Test Centre) Rules, 2013, as amended from time to time by the Government of India, shall be adopted and made applicable in the Union Territory of Lakshadweep with immediate effect.

2. Application: The provisions of the said Rules shall apply to all Government Approved Test Centres established/recognised and functioning within the Union Territory of Lakshadweep.

3. Competent Authority: The powers and functions assigned to the appropriate authority under the said Rules shall, in the Union Territory, be exercised by the Secretary of Legal Metrology, or as may be specified by the UT Administration from time to time.
