THE MADHYA PRADESH LOCAL AUTHORITIES ( ELECTORAL OFFENCES ) AMENDMENT BILL , 2024
A Bill further to amend the Madhya Pradesh Local Authorities (Electoral Offences ) Act, 1964 .
Be it enacted by the Madhya Pradesh Legislature in the seventy - fifth year of the Republic of India as follows :-
Short title.
1. This Act may be called the Madhya Pradesh Local Authorities ( Electoral Offences ) Amendment Act , 2024 .
Amendment of section 3 .
2. In clause (b ) of sub - section ( 1 ) of section 3 of the Madhya Pradesh Local Authorities (Electoral Offences ) Act, 1964 (No. 13 of 1964 ) , the words " or print media " shall be omitted.
STATEMENT OF OBJECTS AND REASONS
In the Representation of People Act , 1951 (43 of 1951 ) of Election Commission of India, the provision of clause (b ) of sub- section ( 1 ) of Section 126 provides that no person shall display any matter related to the election to the public through cinematography , television or other similar apparatus . These provisions do not include print media. Accordingly , amendment is proposed in clause (b) of sub - section ( 1 ) of Section 3 of the Madhya Pradesh Local Authorities ( Electoral Offences ) Act , 1964 (No. 13 of 1964) to bring it at par with provisions of the Representation of People Act , 1951 .
3. Hence this Bill .
