AN ORDINANCE
further to amend the Maharashtra Co-operative Societies Act, 1960.
WHEREAS both Houses of the State Legislature are not in session ;
AND WHEREAS the Governor of Maharashtra is satisfied that circumstances exist which render it necessary for him to take immediate action further to amend the Maharashtra Co-operative Societies Act, 1960, for the purposes hereinafter appearing ;

(१)२ महाराष्ट्र शासन राजपत्र असाधारण भाग आठ, जानेवारी १५, २०२४/पौष २५, शके १९४५ NOW, THEREFORE, in exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of article 213 of the Constitution of India, the Governor of Maharashtra is hereby pleased to promulgate the following Ordinance, namely :—
1. (1) This Ordinance may be called the Maharashtra Co-operative Short title and commencement.
Societies (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024.
(2) It shall come into force at once.
Mah. XXIV of 1961.
2. In section 73-ID of the Maharashtra Co-operative Societies Act, 1960, in sub-section (2), in the proviso, for the words " six months " the words " two years " shall be substituted.

The Maharashtra Co-operative Societies Act, 1960 (Mah. XXIV of 1961) is enacted for the orderly development of the co-operative movement in the State. Section 73-ID of the said Act provides that no requisition for a special meeting of the committee for bringing the motion of no-confidence against the officers of the societies shall be made within a period of six months from the date on which the officer has entered upon his office.
2. In order to ensure that, the officer of the society get sufficient period to work for the management of society after his election, it is necessary to enhance the said period from six months upto two years, within which such requisition for a special meeting for bringing motion of no-confidence against the officer of the society shall not be made. It is, therefore, considered expedient to amend section 73-ID of the said Act, suitably.
3. As both Houses of the State Legislature are not in session and the Governor of Maharashtra is satisfied that circumstances exist which render it necessary for him to take immediate action further to amend the Maharashtra Co-operative Societies Act, 1960, for the purposes aforesaid, this Ordinance is promulgated.
