ORDER UNDER SECTION 144 of Cr.P.C.

Whereas, the Election Commission of India, in view of the General Elections to the House of People 2014 has issued instructions vide No. 464/KT-HP/2014, dated 16-4-2014, to restrict the assemble/movement of people by invoking the provisions of section 144 of Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973. Polling for entire Puducherry constituency is scheduled to be held on 24-4-2014.

[ 325]LA GAZETTE DE L'ETAT [ PART-I 326 326 Now, therefore, for smooth conduct of Elections in a free and fair manner, and in strict enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct to prevent distribution of cash or kind to the voters, I, Dr. A. Muthamma, I.A.S., District Magistrate, Karaikal, hereby invoke the provisions of section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 and prohibit the assemblage of five or more persons in public streets or thoroughfares or in public places and prohibit the carrying of weapons, sticks, banners, placards, etc., by any person and also prohibit the shouting of slogans and acting in any other manner detrimental to public peace and tranquility in entire Karaikal District from 6.00 p.m. of 22-4-2014 until further orders.

This order does not apply to purely religious functions, marriages, funerals and for assembling of electors in the polling stations.
