S.O.(E). — In pursuance of section 12 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 (43 of 1951), the President is pleased to call upon the elected members of the Legislative Assembly of the Union territory of Puducherry to elect, in accordance with the provisions of the said Act and of the rules and o r d e r s mad e th er eu nd er, one memb e r fo r t he p u r p o s e o f fi ll in g t he s ea t which is due to fall vacant on the 6th October, 2015 on the retirement of Thiru P. Kannan, a member of the Council of States on the expiration of his term of office.

No. 318/CS-Pudu/2015(1).— Whereas, the President of India has, by n o t if ic at io n i ss ue d u nd er s ec ti o n 1 2 o f t he R ep r e se n ta ti o n o f t he P eo p l e A c t , 1 9 5 1 ( 4 3 o f 1 9 5 1 ) a n d p u b l i s h e d i n t h e G a z e t t e o f I n d i a o n 10th September, 2015, been pleased to call upon the elected members of the Legislative Assembly of the Union territory of Puducherry to elect one member to the Council of States ;

No w, the r ef o r e , in p ur sua nce o f su b -s ect io n ( 1 ) o f sec tio n 3 9 and section 56 of the said Act, the Election Commission of India hereby —

(A) appoints, with respect to the said election —

(a) the 18th September, 2015 (Friday), as the last date for making nominations ;

(b) t he 19th S ep t e mb e r, 2 0 15 ( Saturd a y) , a s t h e d a t e fo r the scrutiny of the nominations ;

(c) the 2 1st Sep tember, 2 0 15 ( Monday) , as the last d ate fo r the withdrawal of candidatures;

(d) the 28th September, 2 0 15 (Monday), as the date on which a poll shall, if necessary, be taken ; and

(e) the 3rd October, 2 0 15 (Saturd a y ), as the date before which the election shall be completed; and

(B) fixes the hours from 9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m., as the hours during which the poll shall, if necessary, be taken on the date specified above for the election.

NOTIFICATION

No. 318/CS-Pudu/2015(2).— In pursuance of section 21, and in exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 22 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 (43 of 1951), the Election Commission of India, in consultation with the Government of the Union territory of Puducherry, hereby—

(i) designates the officer, specified in column (1) of the Table below, to be the Returning Officer; and

(ii) appoints the officer, specified in column (2) of the said Table, to be the Assistant Returning Officer to assist the Returning Officer in the performance of his functions;

in respect of the biennial election to the Council of States, to be held in that Union Territory in pursuance of the Commission's Notification No. 318/CS- Pudu/2015(1) published in the Gazette of India on 10th September, 2015.
