NOTIFICATION

No. 100/PUDU-LA/1/2019;— Whereas, the seat of Shri Ashok Anand, in the Legislative Assembly of the Puducherry Union T erritory, elected from 9–Thattanchavady Assembly Constituency, has become vacant on 30.10.2018, due to disqualification consequent upon his conviction under the provision clause (e) of sub-section (1) of Section (13) read with sub-section (2) of Section 13 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and section 109 of Indian Penal Code by the Hon'ble Special Judge (Principal Sessions Judge), Puducherry in Spl. CC No.1/2008 on 30.10.2018 read with section 8 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951; and 2. Whereas, a bye-election is to be held for the purpose of filling the vacancy so caused; and

3. Now, therefore, in pursuance of sub-section (1) of section 150, and sections 30 and 56 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 (43 of 1951), the Election Commission of India hereby:—

(A) Calls upon the said 9–Thattanchavady Assembly Constituency in the Union territory of Puducherry to elect, before the 27.05.2019 (Monday) and in accordance with the provisions of the said Act and of the rules and orders made thereunder, a person, for the purpose of filling the said vacancy in the Legislative Assembly of the Union Territory; and

(B) Appoints, with respect to the said election,—

(a) the 26.03.2019 (Tuesday), as the last date for making nominations;

(b) the 27.03.2019 (Wednesday), as the date for the scrutiny of nominations;

(d) the 18.04.2019 (Thusday), as the date, on which a poll shall, if necessary, be taken;

(e) the 27.05.2019 (Monday), as the date before which the election shall be completed; and

(C) Fixes the hours from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. as the hours during which the poll shall, if necessary, be taken on the date specified above for the election.
