Whereas, Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease which

Whereas, the disease has a lready been declar ed as a Disaster u nder the provi sion of Di saster Ma nagement Act, 200 5. It also a ttracts t he provisi on o f Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 and rules framed thereunder;

Whereas, the infections are spreading and new cases are being reported in various parts of the country on daily basis;

Whereas, the Ministry of Home Affairs, Go vernment of India, Order No. 40-3/2020-DM-1(A), dated 01-05-2020 has extended the lockdo wn measure until 31-05-2020 to strictly implement social distancing measures for a further period to effectively contain the spread of COVID-19 ;

Whereas, it is essential to enfo rce social distancing by impo sing further restriction in order to contain the COVID-19;

Now, therefore, I, Dr. Arun, T., I.A.S., District Magistrate, Puducherry, in exercis e of the pow ers conferre d up on me un der section 1 44 of the C riminal Procedure Code, 1973, do hereby prohibit the assembly of five or more persons in public streets or thoroughfares o r in public places with effect from 1 8-05-2020 till midnight of 31-05-2020.

The emergent nature of case and circumstances do no t permit serving of

notice to the concerned in due time and hence, this Order is passed under section 144 (2) of Criminal Procedure Code, 1973 .

This Order shall not apply to agencies/officials of the Government involved in the enforcement of Law and Order, duty relating to containment of Corona Viru s and the maintenance of essential services.
