Ms. No. 39/LAS./2021, Puducherry, dated 17th September 2021) NOTIFICATION I n e x e r c i s e o f t h e p o w e r s c o n f e r r e d u n d e r c l a u s e ( d ) o f sub-section (2) of section 65 of the Puducherry Municipalities Act, 1973 (No. 9 of 1973) and of all other powers enabling her in this behalf the Lieutenant-Governor, Puducherry, is pleased to make the following Amendment to the Puducherry Municipal Councils (Conduct of Election of Councillors) Rules, 1974 notified vide G.O. Ms. No. 210, dated the 14th December, 1974 of the Local Administration Department, Government of Puducherry namely:- [ 703 ]

1. Short title, extent and commencement.— (1) These rules may be called the Puducherry Municipal Councils (Conduct of Election of Councillors) [Amendment] Rules, 2021.

(2) They shall extend to the whole of the Union territory of

Puducherry.

(3) They shall come into force with immediate effect.

2. Amendment of rule 2.— In rule 2 of the Puducherry Municipal Councils (Conduct of Election of Councillors) Rules, 1974 (hereinafter referred to as "the said rules").

(i) In rule 2, sub-rule (1) after sub-clause (e). the following

sub-clause shall be inserted, namely:-

'(e)(a) "electronic mode" means, filing of nominations through the online facility, made available by the State Election Commission.'

(ii) In rule 2, sub-rule (1) after sub-clause (f), the following

sub-clause shall be inserted, namely:-

'(f)(a) "physical mode" means, filing of paper nomination in

person, in the prescribed Form.'

3. Amendment of rule 11.— In the said rules, in the sub-rule (1) of rule 11, for the existing word "paper" the following words namely, "either in physical mode or electronic mode" shall be substituted.
