1. Short title, extent and commencement.— (1) These rules may be called the Puducherry Village and Commune Panchayats (Conduct of Election of Members of Commune Panchayat Councils and Presidents and Members of Village Panchayats) [Amendment] Rules, 202l.

(2) They shall extend to the whole of the Union territory of

Puducherry.

(3) They shall come into force with immediate effect.

2. Amendment of rule 12.— In rule 12 of the Puducherry Village and Commune Panchayats (Conduct of Election of Members of Commune Panchayat Councils and Presidents and Members of Village Panchayats) Rules, 1978, for the existing sub-rule (1), after the words "Scheduled Caste", the following words shall be inserted namely -

"or Scheduled Tribe".
