NOTIFICATION
The 12th May, 2023
No. E 490642/IW2/560095/2023.-
1.0 In order to increase the canal water utilization and to provide canal water to maximum fields of farmers, apart from regular water courses being managed by the Department under various schemes formulated under the Northern India Canal and Drainage Act, 1873 (as applicable to the State of Punjab), the Department had also been allowing Bhaichara water courses to cater the need of individuals or group of persons. Such water courses are being run and managed by the individuals or group of persons without adhering to the procedure of Warabandi which led rise to various disputes. As the water flows in such Bhaichara water courses from the Canals managed by the State Government. therefore, in order to curtail disputes arising out of these water courses and to provide redressal mechanism in order to resolve such disputes in public interest a need has arisen to regulate such water courses departmentally.
Therefore, the Governor of Punjab is pleased to accord its approval to declare the henceforth such Bhaichara water courses shall be treated as sanctioned water courses for all intents and purposes and the procedure of Warabandhi duly notified by the Department of water Resources from time to time shall also be applicable to these water courses.
2.0 This decision shall come into forced on and with effect from the date of publication of this notification in the Official Gazette.
